School which traced its history wins futuristic
whiteboard Classroom | 02 Feb 2009 : A Cork primary school which traced its history and presented it in an eye-catching format has won a state-of-the-art, classroom fit-out worth more than €5,000, including a Promethean Interactive whiteboard which will ensure pupils have the computing skills they need for the future. Leading interactive whiteboard providers, Promethean, ran the competition for Irish Primary Principals Network member schools and the top prize was won by Scoil Eoin, Innishannon, Co Cork. Third class pupils at Scoil Eoin and their teacher, Tom Cowhig, entered the competition, creating a ‘flip chart' video and quiz presentation. Their labours paid off and the judges were suitably impressed, picking their entry as the most outstanding from the hundreds received. Mr Cowhig said the Promethean boards are already a huge hit in the school and having a third will be a massive boost. "The boards are so popular that every single class wants one. We are a 270 pupil school with 14 staff. "The children were very interested in the school history and we traced it, including an interview with our learning support teacher, Teresa Pollock, who was once a pupil. The features on our whiteboard were used to include quizzes in the project, something the children really loved. The boards are brilliant and they have completely changed the way we teach and the way children learn. They are far more visually stimulated." Promethean Ireland offers solutions for every budget and are proud sponsors of the IPPN conference, as well as the nationwide competition. Promethean Ireland MD, Seamus McGuinnes, wished Mr Cowhig, the pupils and teachers at Scoil Eoin the very best and hoped the complete Promethean classroom fit-out they won would further enhance learning at the school.
The pupils of Innishannon National School have a great website.
